Little ones love to sing and play. JOMP Start classes for babies through age 5 support and build on that natural instinct so that joyful learning becomes a path to future success in music. "Meet the Instruments" designed for ages 5 - 7 years is a 15-week hands-on introduction to instruments in the major families of percussion, strings, woodwinds, and brass.
Group classes for beginners in piano, violin, cello, guitar, and ukulele provide a 15-week immersive course designed to advance group and individual progress as well as create a path to successful private instruction. Groups classes are arranged by age and incorporate music fundamentals as well as instrument instruction.
Vocal ensembles starting with "Sing, Circle, Boom" for 5- 7 years provided joyful group vocal music-making for all ages. This is great preparation to join Youth Vocal Ensemble or Teen Vocal Ensemble.
Early music education does so much for little ones. It builds coordination, expands vocabulary, develops listening, nurtures confidence, grows creativity, enables memory... and most importantly brings joy.
JOMP Start early childhood classes are different than your typical class. Designed by a musician with instrumental, vocal and early childhood expertise, these classes joyfully introduce both the child and the caregiver to the fundamentals of music.
Musical concepts of high/low, fast/slow, loud/soft, thick/thin, beat/pulse as well as pitch and rhythm are gained through age appropriate instrument play, props and music taken from the repertoire of the world.
Children that have progressed from Baby JOMP to Tot JOMP and then on to Meet the Instruments are better prepared for private lesson success and ultimately joyful learning.
First steps in music are a path to life-long love of music.
Walk up JOMP's path in the summer and you'll be welcomed by an abundance of sunflowers. They weren't always there. JOMP's founder Wendy Webster Ardizzone discovered a stray seed germinating near the door of JOMP shortly after moving to their new space on 1 Gorham Street. She protected and nurtured that little plant until it grew strong, tall, and eventually was joined by others. The same is true of her care for JOMP, which she founded in 1986, and the thousands of students of all ages that have made JOMP their musical home.
Wendy's vision was to create a musical community reflective of the rich diversity of the greater Worcester area. Today, with its core of outstanding faculty of more than 40 musician educators, JOMP draws students, faculty, staff, volunteers, and donors together in a joyful community united by high quality music education and performance. Access informs all of JOMP’s programming. With a beautiful facility (a former nursing home) that houses the Shapiro Concert Hall as well as 22 fully equipped music teaching studios, JOMP has created a fully accessible music space for all.
Additionally, JOMP believes everyone deserves access to a quality music education. Financial Aid for any person with demonstrated need has been, is, and always will be at the heart of JOMP’s mission. JOMP on in. We can’t wait to welcome you.
