Owen Nelsen

Owen Nelsen joined JOMP’s brass faculty in 2026. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in music and education from Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, his home town, and a Level 1 certification from the Kodály Music Institute in Framingham, MA.

His performance history includes 4 seasons of Drum Corps International (including playing for crowds of thousands at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis), several seasons of D1 pep band, and various teaching and performing gigs throughout college. He is also an associate conductor of the Blackstone Valley Community Concert Band of Uxbridge, MA.

Owen believes that music belongs to everyone, and strives constantly to find a place for everyone in music. He is especially fond of experimental music, and has composed a few pieces in that genre.
