Dr. Lydia Consilvio

Dr. Lydia Consilvio is an oboist, singer/songwriter, and music educator. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Oboe Performance from the University of Maryland, with additional degrees from Yale University and the Eastman School of Music. She has served as Visiting Lecturer of Oboe at the University of Oklahoma and has performed with ensembles including the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, and Rochester Chamber Orchestra. Alongside her classical career, she writes and records original pop music, with releases available on streaming platforms. She also served as a Teaching Artist for the Lullaby Project, a program of Carnegie Hall that supports parents in writing personal lullabies for their children. As an educator, Lydia teaches oboe, piano, voice, and songwriting to students of all ages. Her approach combines structure with creativity and curiosity, helping students build strong technical foundations while developing confidence and musical independence.

Lydia is an alumna of the Joy of Music Youth Orchestra (JYO) under Maestro Timothy Terranella. In 2025, she joined the staff in addition to her faculty role, contributing to Joy of Music’s development and community engagement initiatives.
