Darina Boyarchuk

JOMPStart, Little Strings

Darina is a young Ukrainian-American musician who started her professional studies at the College of Idaho, Caldwell Idaho in Music Education.

That is not, however, where music began for her. Raised in a big family of eight, Darina lived and breathed music at home, in churches, with relatives/friends, and in schools for as long as she remembers. She started taking private violin lessons at five years old in the Everett and Bellevue areas until the family moved to Treasure Valley Idaho in 2006. There she continued studying with Pavel Hatvani for several years until the big family couldn't afford private lessons any longer.

Lessons were tough to come by, but Darina found collaborative spaces within the Treasure Valley community and alongside other students that were in similar demographics and also just as thirsty to keep learning more music. She started leaning into community orchestras, chamber groups, and various choral choirs that were available through schools, churches, and free programs to continue learning and pursuing music education through all of middle and high school.

Once accepted to the College of Idaho, she studied under Geoffrey Trabichoff for Violin, Annie Powell for Voice, and Dr. Brent Wells for Chamber Music. Darina completed two years of the Music Education program before the pandemic forced the cancellation of all in-person studies. While collaborative music and music education programs were being rebuilt after an overdue pause, the opportunity to move across the country was at the door for Darina, and she took it.

Now living in Worcester and having been inspired and encouraged by the kinship she grew up with, Darina is incredibly passionate about giving back to the community via education, and contributing however she can into building/creating a better future for the next generation of musicians and her family. She loves teaching and working with children and teenagers of all ages and especially loves to learn and play alongside other musicians.

Darina currently teaches private and group lessons, plays violin and sings in a local band, and participates in the Seven Hills Symphony. She is actively finishing a degree in Music Leadership and Enterprise to then pursue a Masters in Conducting.
