Alanna Rantala

Alanna (Battat) Rantala holds degrees from University of CA, Davis (B.A. Music) and New England Conservatory (M.M. Piano Performance) where she studied with renowned pianist Leonard Shure. She has performed in several cities throughout the US, as well as London and Australia. She has been on the faculties of Boston’s Community Music Center, Brookline’s Yamaha Music School, Fitchburg State College, and was a vocal accompanist for Holy Cross College. She recorded “Winter Music” by John Cage in 1991 for MODE records.

While living in Northern CA for the past 13 years and raising her 2 boys, Alanna maintained a private piano studio and held recitals several times a year. She did freelance performing, including collaborative piano and the US premiere of “Serpents” by George Antheil. Alanna enjoys her hobby of composing, and in 2016 she released her first solo CD of original piano music, titled "Recognize", available on Spotify, iTunes, etc.

Alanna is passionate about teaching and has worked with students of all ages and levels. Her main goal for her students is to enjoy playing while developing a lifetime love for music.  Alanna happily returned to JOMP in the summer of 2019, after teaching here from 1990-2000!
