Peter Lewis

Peter Lewis received two Bachelor of Music degrees from Kent State University in Ohio, one in Music Education and one in Percussion Performance as a student of Michael Burritt. He also holds a Master of Music in Education from UMass Lowell and a  MMEd from UMass Amherst, with a concentration in Wind Conducting. In addition, he has been studying conducting with Malcolm W. Rowell, Jr. Peter’s bass teachers include Mark Henry, Bruce Gertz, and Kai Eckhardt de Carmargo. As a freelancer, he performs in a variety of settings and has recently performed with Brad Terry and Rick DellaRatta. He is principal bassist with the Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra and has appeared with the Thayer Symphony Orchestra, the Worcester Chorus, Worcester Jazz Orchestra and the Ken Hadley Jazz Orchestra.

As a music educator, Peter has taught in the Fitchburg, Hudson and Lowell public school systems. He is currently Director of Bands at Quabbin Regional Middle/High School in Barre and Conductor and Artistic Director of the Quabbin Community Band. Peter became a member of the Joy of Music faculty in March 2010.
